Mt. Blanca (14,345 feet)
The king peak of the Sierra Blanca is Blanca Peak, surrounded by lesser mountains, overlooking the vast San Luis Valley. The Sierra Blanca has watched the march of the Ute, Spanish and Anglo cultures across its valley. The first recorded summit of Mt. Blanca was in 1874, but those climbers found, much to their surprise, a man-made stone breastwork on the summit, which was undoubtedly used by the Utes as a lookout post.
